My Tech Guys Mailbag
We often get questions sent to email@example.com regarding a whole range of topics. In this new feature, we will be sharing some of these questions and our responses.
Hi My Tech Guys,
My friend sent me a picture showing a bunch of messages coming from my account that I did not send! They talk about taking advantage of free tax rebates and include nasty links. Obviously, somebody has hacked my FB account. What should I do?
Why do these things always happen on a weekend – ignore this until a ‘working’ day.
I hope you’re having a great day!
Good morning Susan,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Yes, indeed it sounds as though either your password was compromised or it was too easy to guess. I would set up a new secure password for the website by consulting this website: www.howsecureismypassword.net. This website will tell you how hard your password is for a computer to break into, and you are aiming to create a password complicated enough for the screen to turn green.
Changing your password and apologizing to your friends who received messages from your account during this time should be enough for Facebook, but I would also be wary of other sites where you also use the compromised password and consider changing them as well just to be safe.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
