We had no idea how popular this would be.  A new way to participate in our community was realized when My Tech Guys first streamed the 2010 Child Development Telethon last year. Since then they streamed the local Federal Debate that was held at the Filberg Centre in April and more recently the Municipal debates for Comox and Courtenay and the 2011 Telethon.

"The numbers are amazing from my perspective." says My Tech Guys owner Bob Wells.
"We were not prepared for this amount of participation.  Within 24 hours of the Comox Debate our servers were overwhelmed and surfers were welcomed with the following error:"

In the past 2 weeks the servers have used more bandwidth than the past 15 years, and that includes last years Telethon and this years Federal Debate.  "Joe Smith was really pushing this idea before the Federal debate and I went along as it seemed fun and geeky.  Joe was ahead of the curve to push for this as it has proven amazing and I hope it results in more people voting in the elections and donations for the telethon."

As of Monday Nov 21 the count is:

Courtenay Debate: Over 100 live viewers

Over 2300 have watched it since Nov 7th

Comox Debate: 50 Watched it live

Over 1300 have watched it since Nov 3rd

CVCDA Telethon: 60 Watched it live (over 8 hours the average was 60 but I doubt many watched it all)

Over 1800 have watched it since Nov 6th Compared to the 1200 peopel that watched last years telethon over the past 12 months this is outstanding!!!

A big thanks has to go out to Larrie and Margaret at Prestige Video Transfer who video'd the event and to Shaw Business who provided the High Speed Internet to allow everyone to watch the events live.  Also, Jeff Ricard from My Tech Guys volunteered his time to stream the telethon for a second year in a row. "It's pretty exciting to use the computers in a way the engages the entire community and gives an opportunity for more people to donate to the Telethon".

If you have not decided who to vote for or want to donate to the Child Development Telethon, head over to www.mytechguys.ca.
