This summer, My Tech Guys is part of a LIFT Comox Valley “support local” social media promotion. Your selfies with local businesses could win you prizes from Atlas Café, Bosley’s (Courtenay), Gladstone Brewing, The Waverley Hotel, Toscano’s Mediterranean Grill, Sure Copy Courtenay, and of course – My Tech Guys!

Putting our social media power behind local businesses

LIFT was voted “best social media organisation” in the Comox Valley region last year. We think that’s because we’re doing a great job of supporting local entrepreneurs. We’ve created the most extensive business and community economic development social media networks on Vancouver Island. And, we’ve created tools to help local businesses get noticed. For example, in 2014 LIFT created the #WeAreYQQ social media tag as a way to draw attention to local talent in business, the arts, and more. Today, in 2017, clicking on the #WeAreYQQ tag in almost any social media channel will direct you to thousands of posts featuring local creatives and entrepreneurs.

This summer LIFT is putting $1000s in promotional support together with our social media clout in our #LIFTVIP contest. With the help of people like you – people who care about local business and local jobs – we’re going to put the focus on local. We’re also going to give away lots of great prizes.

Our economy grows one business at a time

Why is LIFT putting so much energy into promoting local businesses? Because every dollar spent locally helps grow our economy. That means local businesses thrive. That means local businesses create jobs. For example, we have about 25,000 households in the Comox Valley. If every household spends $100 locally on goods and services they’d have bought out of town this summer, that will put about $2.5 million dollars back into our local economy.

$2.5 million dollars isn’t chump change for local businesses. It’ll help them thrive. It’ll help them create jobs.

How you can help support local businesses

The most direct way to support local businesses is to pay for their goods and services. But you can amplify your impact by using social media to tell others about the businesses you support. Here’s how we suggest you help make that shift happen this summer:

  1. To boost local businesses, post selfies with your favourite owners or staff to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or your social media of choice. Your posts help elevate every business you’ve posted about.
  2. To boost local – and win prizes:
    1. Find local LIFT VIPs (there over 100 of them between Nanaimo and Campbell River). Ask your business friends if they’re members – or check the list at http://liftlocal.ca/.
    2. Post selfies with LIFT VIPs to Instagram with the #LIFTVIP tag so we can find and “engage” your posts!
    3. That’s it – you’re supporting local and you’re in to win prizes!

Enter often!

Every post is your way to support local business in our communities. Every #LIFTVIP post to Instagram is your way to support local and win prizes from great local businesses.

LIFT is drawing winners weekly in July, August, and September. Your #LIFTVIP selfie will help promote local business – and it could win you prizes from from Atlas Café, Bosley’s (Courtenay), Gladstone Brewing, The Waverley Hotel, Toscano’s Mediterranean Grill, Sure Copy Courtenay, and My Tech Guys.
